The Sacrifice Game

2023

Jenn Wexler

Christmas, Horror, Haunted House , Paranormal, Scary, Splatter, Winter, Gore, Cults

It's bad enough that boarding school students Samantha and Clara can't go home for the holidays, but things take a deadly turn when a murderous gang arrives on the doorstep of their boarding school- just in time for Christmas.

This underrated film is set in 1971, the story unfolds at Blackvale School for Girls at Christmas, and has a great 70's aesthetic.
The story is inspired by the real-life Manson family cult and murders.
Without giving too much away, the story blends cult, splatter, survival, home invasion, and paranormal elements; we think it is very unique while also being a little underdeveloped.
There is disturbing cruelty, gore, and brutal deaths; wildly uncomfortable to watch at times.
Some of the characters could have used more character development to make their deaths more impactful.
Great performances from the whole cast, the psychopathic characters will make you feel very uneasy.
It would have been nice to have Olympian Gus Kenworthy show off his physique in some nudes scenes, he gives a surprisingly good performance.
Directed by rookie Jenn Wexler, also known for her debut horror film 'Ranger' (2018).
Features Mena Massoud, Olivia Scott Welch, Chloë Levine, Madison Baines, Gus Kenworthy, Derek Johns, Laurent Pitre, and others.
*Trigger warnings: forcible confinement, home invasion
