What is Spooktober? Definition:

Spooktober is a blend of the words "spooky" and "October".

Spooktober is a yearly celebration of Halloween (also called Samhain), an extended Halloween.

Spooktober is celebrated throughout the month of October, the 1st of the month being the most anticipated day and start of the "spooky season", beginning the countdown until Halloween on October 31st.

In recent years, as Spooktober has grown in popularity, many participants are also including the month of September in the spooky season, coinciding with the changing of the colour of leaves in the Northern Hemisphere in Fall (also called Autumn).

Spooktober revelers celebrate the spooky season by decorating their homes, embracing Fall weather, playing scary video games, reading macabre books, and most importantly, by watching spooky and scary horror movies.

What's on our site?

Our Site is a catalog of movies, created for Spooktober enthusiasts to easily explore and find new movies to watch.

*We only include films that we think are worth watching*

We include a short review for each film, telling you what is great about the film, what wasn't the the greatest or could have been better, as well as interesting facts, trigger warnings, details about the director, and the main cast. *We don't normally put spoilers in our reviews*

To make it on our site, a film must be one of following:

Take place on Halloween or have Halloween imagery
Be spooky, scary or terrifying
Have characters you could dress up in costume as

Who are we?

We are a team of two, a web developer and a software engineer, based in Toronto Canada.

We write all over our reviews, we only use AI for research, every review is our own genuine critique. It is a lot of fun, but also a lot of tedious work. We are constantly looking for new films we haven't seen, re-watching films, and we do quite a bit of research on each film to better understand it.

We have watched hundreds of films for the site, most of which we didn't think were good enough to make it on the site, we would consider ourselves to have a bachelor degree in horror at this point.

How do we make money?

Our site is a passionate project but we would like to be profitable in the future with some income streams, please reach out to us by email if you have an opportunity.

Our Goals

Our main goal is for you to have a great a Spooktober watching all your favourite films and discovering new ones.

We are hoping to have 600 films on the site by the end of 2025, we have already added most modern films (80's-the present) and we will be adding more older films in the future.

We would like to have a merch shop on the site for the 2025 Spooky Season, create partnerships, and possibly create videos on our YouTube page.

Why Did We create this site?

We created this site because we had a difficult time finding new Halloween movies to watch, there are many "Top 25" articles on the internet, but they all have the same generic lists of films.

The site started as our own list of movies that we would email to friends and family every year, and as it grew we began to add commentary and eventually it became so large we decided to put it on a website.

Can I stream films on Spooktober.ca?

You cannot stream films on this website but we provide links to where you can stream, rent, and purchase films on each film's page which is customized to your country.
Can I purchase Spooktober.ca merch?

Not yet! We will be launching a merch page in summer 2025. To be notified of the merch page launch you can subscribe to our mailing list at the bottom of this page. We are excited too!
Why don't you have the film I am looking for?

Sorry! We are brand new, we launched Spooktober.ca in 2024. Our site administrator works around the clock adding new films to the catalog. It is our goal to have every good spooky film ever made on the site by 2026. Thanks for supporting us in our first year!
Can I leave my own film reviews on Spooktober.ca?

You can rate any film on it's film page and we would love it if you left your own review in the comments. Thanks for being so passionate!
