Violent Night
2022
Tommy Wirkola
Action, Christmas, Comedy, Thriller, Not Scary, Gore, Horror, Splatter, Folklore
When a team of mercenaries breaks into a wealthy family compound on Christmas Eve, taking everyone inside hostage, the team isn’t prepared for a surprise combatant: Santa Claus is on the grounds, and he’s about to show why this Nick is no saint.
This home invasion flick is very festive, with decorations, gift giving, and even some nut cracking.
This film features the real Santa Claus, unique in that regard, mixing the magical childhood folklore with action packed gore.
We really love the homage to the classic Christmas film 'Home Alone' (1990), and it is also reminiscent of other one-man-army action flicks.
Nothing too scary, this is mostly about the kills and the absurdity of Santa being a violent assassin, there are a lot of kills with holiday props, but they aren't very gory.
Harbour gives a great performance as Santa, giving the legend an unexpected personality.
Some pacing issues and nothing unique or ground breaking here.
Overall, the film is an entertaining watch, an action spectacular that will warm your heart and quench your thirst for carnage.
Directed by Tommy Wirkola, known for 'Hansel & Gretel: Witch hunters' (2013) and 'Dead Snow' (2009).
'Violent Night' cast features David Harbour, John Leguizamo, Beverly D'Angelo, Alex Hassell, Alexis Louder, and others.
The sequel, 'Violent Night 2' will release December 4, 2026.
