Until Dawn

"A group of friends go searching in a remote and isolated valley for a missing sister, they hope to solve the mystery of her disappearance, but become entangled in the time bending mystery themselves."
This wildly popular video game (2015) makes it silver screen debut, sure to be controversial for loyal fans of the video game franchise, we think they struck the right balance of staying true to the game while adapting to a new medium, although the film is very flawed.
What really holds this film back is the length and editing, while we normally appreciate a tight film, this one could have benefitted from being longer, admittedly this would have been very difficult to edit, but we think it would have been better if more had been left in the reel.
A highlight of the film is the excellent score, so menacing and spooky, really helps the film build tension and heighten fear.
The creature design is top notch, relying more on practical effects than digital, and we really have a supernatural creatures buffet in this film; wendigos and witches and zombies, oh my!
If you love escape rooms and gory deaths, you will enjoy this thrilling film, there are just a few shocking scares, more of a slow burn suspense dread, a great watch for a horror rookie.
