The Ritual
2017
David Bruckner
Monsters, Scary, Thriller, Mystery
This thrilling psychological film takes place in Sweden, but the dialogue is in English, and the story is based on Swedish folklore.
Like most films that place in a forest, it takes place in an artificial forest so that the filming is easier and you can see what is happening; the rows of neatly planted trees gives this film a great atmosphere, endless and repetitive, a claustrophobic maze.
Like a lot of newer horror films, this film really creates a fear of the unknown by not letting you see monster.
There is some good gore and it's pretty scary with multiple great jump scares interspersed into the thrilling and tense run time, complemented by an excellent score.
Is anyone going to survive??? There is one really annoying character you will be begging to be killed, which is always fun.
We really hope more directors create films with folklore, there is so much more to explore and to bring to world audiences.
Features Rafe Spall, Arsher Ali, Robert James-Collier, Sam Troughton, Paul Reid, and others.
