The Blob
1958
Irvin S. Yeaworth Jr, Russell S. Doughten Jr
Aliens, Monsters, Original, Not Scary
Run__ Don’t Walk!
This film is the epitome of 50’s horror, a decade filled with alien invasions, they looked up to the sky in fascination and terror.
The movie starts out great with excellent special effects (especially the blob), atmosphere, score, and unique filming style; but then it really drags and there isn’t a lot happening until near the end.
Lots of 50’s Americana kitsch to wet your whistle, the cars, the clothes, the hair, the fonts, it’s all beautiful.
The 80’s remake of this film is much more fleshed out in every way, and obviously had better technology with which to create the story and film; we recommend you watch both to compare and contrast, the remake is a must-see classic.
Features Steve McQueen, Aneta Corsaut, Earl Rowe, Olin Howland, Stephen Chase, John Benson, George Karas, Lee Payton, and others.
