Beetlejuice
1988
Tim Burton
Avant-Garde, Comedy, Paranormal
A strange oddball spooky comedy from the legendary director, Tim Burton.
Wonderfully imaginative, dark, and ghoulish.
Very 80’s special effects, great costumes and score, unique loveable characters, great stop motion, and lots of laughs.
The whole cast gives great performances, but particularly Keaton and O'Hara, the latter of which becomes a breakout star.
The iconic sets and props are very surreal, a lot of focus was given to the visuals in the film, but we do wish the plot had been a bigger focus, at times it can be confusing.
It is worth noting that Beetlejuice is a total creep, sexual harassment is not okay, it was the 80’s and his behaviour would not have been viewed as so cringe back then.
This cult classic finally got a sequel in 2024, 'Beetlejuice 2', apparently no one said his name 3 times in that 26 year hiatus haha.
Features Micheal Keaton, Winona Ryder, Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin, Catherine O’Hara, and others.
