House Of 1000 Corpses
2003
Rob Zombie
Clowns, Campy, Scary, Must-See, Original, Psychological
This grotesque, violent, and playful film has a cult following; and for good reason, we think it is a must-see classic that you need to experience.
This was heavy metal horror rocker turned director, Rob Zombie's debut film, he is also known for the sequel 'The Devil's Rejects' (2005), and the 2000's remakes of the first two films in the 'Halloween' franchise.
The film has a unique opening that is paying homage to retro local horror tv programming that is a great setup for the tone of what you are about to watch.
The characterization is excellent, very campy and sadistic, and the film gives us one of the most iconic clowns in horror history.
The aesthetic is incredible, it is a classic "Grindhouse" film, all elements perfectly combining to create an unsettling atmosphere.
Rob Zombie also composed the radical score which is a highlight of the film; it has industrial, metal, and eerie orchestral elements that perfectly complement the aesthetic.
Horror veterans will notice fun tropes like the "fear of hillbillies" and "the final girl".
The film is scary, but a different kind of scary, sick and twisted, a psychological fear and shock value scariness.
This film takes place on Halloween and we recommend watching it with friends on Halloween, possibly under the influence to really enjoy the comedy that is so very quotable.
Features Sid Haig, Bill Moseley, Sherri Zombie, Karen Black, Erin Daniels, Chris Hardwick, Rainn Wilson, Jennifer Jostyn, Tom Towles, Walton Goggins, Matthew McGory, and others.
