Evil Dead

This remake of 'The Evil Dead' (1981) is somewhat of a "requel"; interestingly, Raimi, director of the original is executive producer.
Whereas the original and it's sequels are really bizarre and absurd horror comedies, this remake is decidedly no laughing matter.
The setting is virtually the same, making this seem very much like an alternate universe sequel.
This remake is pretty damn terrifying, delivering near constant scares throughout, gruesome realistic gore effects and so so much blood.
The film overall is an excellent remake, paying homage to the original while giving us something totally different and fresh using the same story.
Other highlights are the acting, score, and atmosphere.
