The Substance

This film absolutely wowed audiences, it is a must-see body horror masterpiece.
The aesthetic of the film is incredible, an 80's time capsule, so beautiful and striking that it is impossible to look away from the expertly crafted sets.
We have to say, the story of the film is somewhat reminiscent of the classic, 'Death Becomes Her' (1992).
The film explores themes of societal pressures on women's bodies and aging, objectification, fame, and human nature.
The prosthetic makeup used in the body horror is remarkable, the atmospheric tension is expertly built up at a perfect pace, great score, and very strong performances from the entire cast.
We feel confident naming this the best film of the year, although Nosferatu is certainly in the running.
