This film very clearly inspired hundreds of haunted house films that came after it.
You will think of this film every time you see flies, a rocking chair, or a man chopping wood.
The film has been called a metaphor for buying a ‘fixer upper’ home.
There is a prequel, a sequel, many films with objects from the house, and a remake: we wouldn’t recommend you watch any of the sequels, the prequel and the 2005 remake are worth a watch.
