Quarantine
2008
John Erick Dowdle
Found Footage, Zombies, Thriller, Remake, Very Scary, Gore, Horror
"A television reporter and her cameraman are trapped inside a building quarantined by the CDC, after the outbreak of a mysterious virus which turns humans into bloodthirsty killers."
This film is a remake of Spanish original, '[REC]' (2007), and it is mostly a shot for exact replication in English.
We recommend watching both versions and their sequels in separate marathons, the style and stories diverge greatly, unfortunately 'Quarantine' only has one sequel.
This remake is a more polished and familiar studio horror approach that keeps the same plot with minor changes.
The movie mostly takes place in one location, a historic apartment building, giving it a very claustrophobic and creepy atmosphere as the chaotic events unfold.
One of the coolest and most unique zombie kills ever, it kind of breaks the fourth wall even though that is not really possible because this is a found footage film.
As typical of the film style, there is no score, just the ambient noise, and also typical, some dizzying camera work that makes it difficult to watch.
This film is very scary with lots of jump scares, getting progressively scarier and stressful, you will be filled with dread of what is to come next, so good.
Just for fun, place a bet at the beginning on which characters you think will survive.
Features Jennifer Carpenter, Steve Harris, Jay Hernandez, Johnathon Schaech, Columbus Short, Rade Serbedzija, Greg Germann, Marin Hinkle, and others.
