This bizarre film is a parody of "B-Horror" films from the 70's, and it is actually one film in the mock "double feature" film 'Grindhouse' (2007), which you could watch instead because it contains this film along with another.
In the mid 20th century drive-in theatres were wildly popular and viewing films from the comfort and privacy of ones own vehicle allowed audiences to stay longer, back-to-back films became common place and also led to more film production, typically of a rushed and lower production quality.
There is a fake film trailer at the beginning (you'll see more if you watch the double feature), and the film also tries to mimic how the film would have been presented; there are scratches, missing reels, grainy textures and damaged print.
There are many chaotic storylines, insane practical effects and makeup gore, and so many explosions with no reasoning.
The comedy however, is distinctly of the time of release, relying heavily on randomness and campy absurdity (you won't forget that testicle scene).
The great score really amplifies the atmosphere and enhances the experience.
Acting from the whole cast is great, over-the-top and dead pan, but the absolute star is McGowan.
We recommend watching this film under the influence with your friends.
Features Bruce Willis, Quentin Tarantino, Rose McGowan, Naveen William Sidney, Tom Savini, Josh Brolin, Mary Shelton, Fergie, Danny Trejo, Cheech Marin, and others.
