Lisa Frankenstein
2024
Zelda Williams
Comedy, Supernatural, Not Scary, Campy, Romance
A macabre love story with an homage to 'Frankenstein' (1932).
Another film bringing us replicated 80's Americana, the costumes and production design are liek a time capsule, really capturing the spirit and aesthetic of the decade.
Set in 1989, the story follows Lisa Swallows, a lonely teenager struggling with the loss of her mother. She spends time at a local cemetery, where she becomes fascinated by the grave of a Victorian-era pianist who died in 1837.
The film is very campy and dark humour, we wouldn't say much of it is laugh out loud comedy.
This was Director Zed Williams debut film, they did not achieve greatness here, unsuccessfully blending the romance with the horror and comedy, but we can't wait to see what they make next.
Definitely still worth a watch though, this is a cute rom-com that will accompany heartbreak and wallowing nicely, and it's not everyday you see an attractive stud lose his manhood, worth it just for that scene.
Features Kathryn Newton, Liza Soberano, Cole Sprouse, Henry Eikenberry, Joe Chrest, and Carla Gugino, and others.
