Legend
1985
Ridley Scott
Avant-Garde, Monsters, Not Scary, Campy, Witchcraft, Family-Friendly
This is a truly bizarre fairytale story, many films like this came out in the 80's, so much glitter!
The film feels kind of like a video game story and is shot from unique POVs, down low and up close.
It is a bit hard to watch, quite corny, overly dramatic, and the score is not a great fit.
What makes this worth watching is the atmosphere and world building, and the incredibly decadent sets and costumes, particularly the Devil and goblins.
The main theme is the struggle between light and darkness and it is full of symbolism, with a few good battle scenes.
Curry gives a great performance and it is fun to see a young Tom Cruise at the start of his career.
Directing this film was quite a departure for legendary director and producer, Ridley Scott; his 3rd major film following his previous masterpieces: 'Alien' (1979) and 'Blade Runner' (1982).
We can't help but wonder if 'Death Of A Unicorn' (2025) took some inspiration from this film.
Parents use your discretion, this film may give young children nightmares.
Features Mia Sara, Tom Cruise, Tim Curry, David Bennent, Alice Playten, Billy Barty, Cork Hubbert, Peter O'Farrell, Kiran Shah, and others.
