Gonjiam Haunted Asylum

One of the best horror films to come out of Korea, you will have to watch this with subtitles if you don't speak Korean, we think it is a must-see found footage near masterpiece.
The real-life Gonjiam Psychiatric Hospital is the set of this film, and it is a very eerie and unsettling building, it must have been spooky for the cast to film there, we won't forget those long concrete hallways, and the set likely helped the great performances.
We wish we got to know the characters a bit more before their deaths, it would have been scarier if we were more emotionally invested in them, and they miss the opportunity to do that in the setup.
We don't get a lot of backstory on this haunted asylum, could have used some lore in the setup as well, give us some ghost story foreplay.
Unlike most found footage flicks, they cleverly used stabilized rigs and mounted cameras, very easy to watch without the normal shaky footage we are used to.
The film masterfully builds and maintains dread; it is wildly thrilling, getting scarier and scarier, with a great ending.
Directed by Jung Bum-shik, known for 'Epitaph' (2007) and 'New Normal' (2022).
Mostly unknown cast features Wi Ha-joon, Park Sung-hoon, and others.
