Fear Street: Prom Queen

2025

Matt Palmer

Scary, Sequel, Slasher, Thriller, Mystery, Gore

This stand-alone sequel is under the banner of the previous Netflix Fear Street trilogy, takes place in the same fictional town, but doesn't really incorporate the infamous town curse (not sure why, weird choice).
Set in 1988, the film follows a Shadyside high senior as she competes for the coveted prom queen title, only to find herself caught in a deadly game when a masked killer begins eliminating the candidates one by one.
This thrilling slasher stay true to the classic formula, a mysterious killer hunting teens, excellent chase scenes and screams, and of course brutal and varied kills.
Lot of 80's nostalgia, great synth heavy soundtrack to make you feel like you are in the decade, and more paired back and appropriate small town 80's outfits (they dressed more intense in the big cities).
Nothing very original in this film, it's a bit predictable and could have been scarier, but horror rookies and Slasher fanatics will enjoy it.
Largely unknown Gen Z cast features India Fowler, Suzanna Son, Fina Strazza, Katherine Waterston, Lili Taylor, Chris Klein, Ariana Greenblatt, David Iacono, Ella Rubin, Rebecca Ablack, Ilan O'Driscoll, Ryan Rosery, and many others.
Directed by Matt Palmer, known for the psychological thriller 'Caliber' (2018).
