Dark Skies
2013
Scott Stewart
Aliens, Thriller, Horror, TV-14, Scary, Mystery
"As the Barrett family's peaceful suburban life is rocked by an escalating series of disturbing events, they come to learn that a terrifying and deadly force is after them, one which may have arrived from beyond the stars."
The film really explores the suburbs and the mentality of suburbanites as a theme, taking place in neighbourhood that feels quintessentially Americana.
A lot of the film feels reminiscent of other films that released a few years prior, particularly 'Paranormal Activity' (2007) and 'Signs' (2002), could have used some more originality.
Very cool creature design for the aliens, not super original, but they are very frightening.
There is a scene that feels inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece 'The Birds' (1963), great homage.
Exceptional performance from Keri Russell playing the Mom, she really carries the film, but the rest of the cast doesn't really get a chance to shine, not much depth to their characters.
The film is wildly unsettling, if creepy children freak you out, this is going to give you serious goosebumps.
Directed by Scott Stewart, known for 'Legion' (2010) and 'Priest' (2011).
Features Keri Russell, Josh Hamilton, Dakota Goyo, Kadan Rockett, J.K. Simmons, and others.
Trigger warning: animal deaths, home invasion, child abduction
