The Exorcist
1973
William Friedkin
Must-See, Paranormal, Original, Scary
When The Exorcist hit theatres in 1973, people vomited, walked out, had heart attacks, and even miscarriages watching the movie; they had to give out barf bags and smelling salts.
The film was also not well received by Catholics at the time, it was called “tainted by the devil himself”, and actors needed body guards because they received so many death threats.
The first half of the film is slow without much action, but overall, we think this film is a must-see classic, with some better editing it could have been a masterpiece.
Many iconic and disturbing scenes that have been referenced hundreds of times in movies and tv shows; the camera work (done before the invention of the steady cam), the makeup, and special effects are incredible.
The Exorcist is cursed; while filming a lot of the cast was injured, 9 crew members were killed, and the set mysteriously burned down.
The film spawned a franchise, 2 prequels, several sequels and a remake.
Features Ellen Burstyn, Max Von Sydow, Linda Blair, Lee J. Cobb, Kitty Winn, Jack MacGowran, Jason Miller, William O’Malley, and others.
