Hellbound: Hellraiser II

***Safety Warning*** there is strobing lights that could trigger seizures.
This is the 2nd film in this franchise, following 'Hellraiser' (1987), you absolutely need to see the original before this sequel; but there is a nice recap of it through flashbacks to refresh your memory.
The film picks up where we left off with our Final Girl and gives us a terrifying window into mental asylums.
To say this movie is disturbing would be an understatement, a lot more skin torture than the first film, the special effects for the body horror are excellent.
There are a lot of problems with the film, especially the illogical plot that can be silly, ridiculous, and very confusing to follow.
We wish the circus elements had been edited out as they add nothing to the story and the film also deserved a better score.
The incorporation of MC Esher's maze like artworks is really cool and an interesting way of depicting Hell, incredible visuals and world building, although it is uneven and we wish the film had a bigger budget.
Themes of moral corruption, pain, and the consequences of human curiosity are explored.
Despite its many shortcomings, this sequel successfully builds on the original director's vision (Clive Barker) and is a must-see film.
We do recommend you watch the next sequel 'Hellraiser III: Hell On Earth' (1992).
