The Boogeyman
2023
Rob Savage
Very Scary, Paranormal, Thriller, Mystery
Turn on the lights!!!
This is an excellent film about the infamous and mythical folk-lore "Boogeyman" entity, it is based on a Stephen King adaptation but the entity itself has been in folklore across many cultures for hundreds of years.
The Boogeyman is usually described as a paranormal entity that punishes misbehaving children and the folk-lore was told to frighten children into obeying their parents, particularly going to sleep when told and staying in their beds.
This film is rated PG-13 but it's actually quite scary with many jump-scares, if you're a horror rookie this one might haunt your dreams.
The acting and characterization is excellent, we really get to build attachment to the characters, thatcher's performance is stellar.
Some might find the pacing a little slow, but the creepy atmosphere and skillfully built tension is great, aided by a complementary score that really ratchets up the fear.
This is director Rob Savage's 2nd horror film, we are very excited for his many upcoming horror films, he is most famous for his ground breaking and terrifying film, 'Host' (2020).
We dare you to watch this film in complete darkness!
Features Sophie Thatcher, Chris Messina, David Dastmalchian, Vivien Lyra Blair, Marin Ireland, and others.
*Trigger warning: dealing with loss.
