The Addams Family
1991
Barry Sonnenfeld
Avant-Garde, Family-Friendly, Not Scary
This is probably one of your go-to Halloween movies, fun for the whole family.
The Adams’ are the weirdest family in America, you are sure to fall in love with these unique and wonderfully crafted characters; they first appeared in their own tv show in the 60’s.
The plot of the movie very much takes a back seat to the characterization, a lot like with Elvira, they are delightfully spooky, sick, and macabre.
This family is free from the traditional constraints of society, especially the parents that can’t keep their hands off each other.
Beyond the characters, the film has great sets, acting, special effects, costumes, and wow they went all out on this set; there is even pretty decent CGI.
Lots of Halloween costume inspiration here.
There is a sequel that is even better.
Features Angelica Huston, Raul Julia, Christopher Lloyd, Dan Hedaya, Elizabeth Wilson, Judith Malina, Carel Stuycken, Dana Ivey, Jimmy Workman, Chrsitina Ricci, and others.
