The Mummy
1932
Karl Freund
Black & White, Mummies, Original, Background, Not Scary
Our first feature length Mummy film!
This film is really beautifully done, the sets are gorgeous.
There is nothing scary in this film, just kind of menacing, you have to imagine how terrified people in the 1930's would have been seeing this.
The Mummy doesn't really look like a Mummy, obviously they had a limited ability to make it look real, which is overcome in the plot.
It's funny they at one point that "The British Museum doesn't loot" because that is exactly what they did to cultures all over the world.
They also mention that the British are doing the archeology in Egypt because the Egyptians were not allowed, the Egyptian government has reversed that, today only Egyptians are allowed to do archeology in Egypt.
The film is just interesting enough to keep you watching, we would recommend putting this on the background while you carve pumpkins.
None of the actors in the film are actually Egyptian.
Features Boris Karloff, Zita Johann, David Manners, Arthur Byron, and others.
